Being effective on the field

1. Develop a hunger for the Word of God. 
Know it deeply; study it daily. Spend time meditating on it. 
Base everything you do on it. God’s Word will keep you steadfast and focused in hard times. You can fight the lies of the enemy when you have it hidden in your heart. It is 
good to have some Bible training before going to the field. 
An Old and New Testament survey is excellent.

1. 하나님의 말씀 대한 갈망을 키워라.

그것에 대해 깊이 알아가라. 매일 연구하라. 그것을 묵상하는 시간을 들여라.

당신이 할 수 있는 모든 것에 그 마음을 기초로 삼으라. 하나님의 말씀은 당신을 고난의 때에 변함 없이 집중하게 해 줄 것이다. 당신은 당신의 마음 안에 숨겨진 생각들을 찾을 때, 적들의 거짓으로부터 싸울 수 있게 된다.

선교지에 가기 전에 성경을 통한 훈련들이 도움이 된다. 구약과 신약 연구가 도움이 된다.

2. Develop spiritual maturity. 
Some people think when they are on the field they will suddenly become spiritual.

Spiritual maturity is developed through time and trial.

We cannot rush it, but we can delay it by not properly exercising spiritual disciplines. Whatever you envision doing on a foreign field, begin practicing right now.

The trials, lessons and successes from a home venture will mature you and provide a spiritual track record for the future.

2.영적인 성숙을 이루어가라.

어떤 사람들은 그들이 선교지에 나가게 되었을 때 갑자기 성숙해질 것이라고 착각한다.

영적인 성숙은 시간과 노력을 통해 개발되는 것이다.

우리는 서두르는 대신에, 적절한 훈련과 영적인 교훈들이 아니면 우리는 미룰 수 있다.

당신이 선교지에서 무엇을 바라며 하는 것이 무엇이든지간에 지금 바로 연습하라.

이러한  시도들, 교훈들, 그리고 성공들은 당신을 성숙시킬 것이고 앞으로 영적인 경주의 기록들을 만들어 줄 것이다.

3. Develop a prayer life. 
The best way to learn to pray is to pray. 
 No one has failed in prayer who has prayed.

Much prayer will result in much blessing; little prayer, little blessing.

Not praying is a testimony we don’t really believe God is faithful to fulfill His promises.

The success of any work is through prayer.

Learn to spend at least an hour a day in prayer.

3.기도의 삶을 살아라.

기도를 배우는 가장 좋은 방법은 기도 하는 것이다.

기도하였는데 실패한 기도의 사람은 아무도 없었다.

수많은 기도의 사람들은 수많은 축복을 거둘 것이다. 적은 기도는 적은 축복을 가져온다.

기도하지 않는 것은 하나님이 신실하게 그의 소망하는 바들을 이루어가심을 믿지 않는다는 것을 말할 뿐이다.

어떠한 일의 성공을 기도를 통하여 이루어진다.

기도하는 데에 적어도 하루에 한 시간정도 들이는 것을 배우라.

4. Develop a support team. 
 Ninety percent of everything in ministry has to do with relationships. 
We are not individuals with an isolated call; we are members of a body.

We suggest 20-30 close relationships with people who feel connected in heart and mind to your vision and call.

There are different approaches to developing these.

4. 팀을 지지하는 것을 개발하라.

어떤 조직에 있어서 90퍼센트 정도가 관계망을 가지고 있다.

우리는 개인이 아니고 고유한 부르심이 있다. 그것은 바로 우리가 한 몸의 구성원들이라는 것이다.

우리는 진심으로 당신의 비전과 부르심에 동의하고 있는 20-30명의 사람들과 가까운 관계를 맺기를 제안한다.

5. Receive confirmation through church leadership. 
Acts 13:1-2 is a good example of how church leaders could be hearing from the Lord.

The same Spirit who spoke 2000 years ago still speaks.

The same purpose and plan stands.

Those who listen will hear.

I can often meet a person and almost immediately know if they have a call to missions.

My rate of error is only about 5%.

Go to your church leaders, share what the Lord has put on your heart 
about missions and ask them to pray for confirmation.

5. 교회의 리더십을 통한 확인을 받아라.

사도행전 13장 1-2절은 교회의 리더들이 어떻게 주님으로부터 그 음성을 들을 수 있는지 좋은 예가 된다. 2000년 전에 말씀한 성령께서 지금도 여전히 말씀하고 계신다. 그리고 동일한 목표와 계획들을 세워간다.

주님의 음성을 듣는 자는 들을 수 있다.

나는 종종 그러한 사람을 만나고, 그런 사람들은 그것이 선교로의 부르심에 대한 응답인지 아닌지 즉시 알 수 있다.

실수 오차는 대략 5퍼센트 정도이다.

당신의 교회 리더들에게로 가서, 당신의 마음속에 새겨진 선교에 대한 마음들을 나누고, 그것에 대해 기도해주기를 요청하라.

6. Develop an attitude of sacrifice. 
Mission is not an adventure tour or holiday pursuit. 
People die in missions.Years ago the Lord challenged me with John 15:13: “No one has greater love than this.that one lays down his life for his friends.” This is easy to say but hard to live. 
The Lord will test our motives by allowing circumstances to reveal the reasons why we do what we do.

Sacrifice requires us to do what we may not want to.

Many start with this attitude but change as the demands of missionary life empty us time and again. Read and study Philippians 2.

6. 희생하는 태도를 길러라.

선교는 미지의 세계로의 여행이라는지 휴가를 보내는 것이 아니다.

사람들은 선교하다가 죽는다. 오래전에 주님께서는 요한복음 15장 13절  "사람이 친구를 위하여 자기 목숨을 버리면 이에서 더 큰 사랑이 없나니"의 말씀으로 도전하셨다. 이것을 말하는 것은 쉽지만 살아내기는 어렵다.

주님은  우리가 무엇을 하는지, 우리가 그렇게 하는 이유가 무엇인지를 드러나게 하는 상황들을 통해서  우리의 동기를 시험하실 것이다.

희생은 우리가 원치 않는 것일지라도 해야하는 것들을 요구할 것이다.

많은 사람들이 이러한 태도로 시작해도 선교적인 삶이 우리를 또다시 공허하게 하는 요구들로써 바뀌지 않는다. 빌립보서 2장을 읽고 연구하라.

7. Learn spiritual warfare. 
We have learned the greatest way the powers of darkness attack is by planting doubt about who we are in Christ.

Spiritual warfare often means weighing what we are thinking against the truth of the Word of God.

Realizing the power of the blood of Christ to cancel sinful thoughts, attitudes and actions is a key to fighting the good fight and keeping the faith.

7. 영적인 전쟁을 배우라

우리는 어둠의 공격이 갖는 가장좋은 방법이 예수님 안에서 우리가 누구인지 의심하도록 만드는 것임을 배웠다.

영적인 전투는 종종 하나님의 진리의 말씀에 반하여 우리가 생각하는 것이 어느 것에 무게를 두고 있는지 알게된다.

죄인된 생각들과 태도들을 무효화하는 예수님의 보혈의 능력을 깨닫는 것이 선한 싸움을 싸워가며 믿음을 지키는 열쇠임을 알았다.

당신은 개인의 영적인 견고한 진을 무너뜨리고 소명을 발견하는 배움의 과정을 통해 더욱더 많이 알아갈 수 있다.

8. Develop loveliness. 
Psalm 135:3 says, “For the Lord is good… gracious and lovely!” 
There is attractiveness in godliness. The fruit of the Spirit in us will attract some and repel others. Kindness without prejudice, joy in suffering and hope in difficulty will show others what we really believe.

Especially important are the words we speak to others and about others.

9. Develop cultural empathy and etiquette. 
Empathy is the ability to understand and share the feelings of others. 
Etiquette is good and acceptable forms of manners in a given culture.

One of the greatest challenges will be to feel and do as those in the host culture.

Take a course on cross-cultural communication focused on the development of culture, attitudes, assimilation and comprehension.

9. 문화적인 공감과 에티켓을 지켜라

공감은 다른 사람의 감정을 이해하고 나눌 수 있는 능력이다.

에티켓은 주어진 문화에서 우호적이고 수용적인 태도이다.

가장 좋은 도전들 중의 하나는 그 나라의 주인으로서 행동하고 느끼는 것이 될 것이다.

문화 개발, 태도, 동화와 이해에 포커스를 맞춘 다문화간 의사소통에 대해 수강하라.

10. Develop endurance. 
In due season, we will reap if we do not fail.

The truth is that once the honeymoon of culture wears off and life winds down to a day-to-day grind, the tendency is to doubt the call and leave.

Questions also need to be answered about the possible need to leave the field if there is a disaster or looming danger.

What is the Lord saying? What would He have you to do? Remember, our lives are not our own.

10. 인내를 배우라

멀지 않아 우리는 실패하지 않는다면 거두게 될 것이다.

질문들은  만약 재앙이 닥치거나 위험에 처했을 때 선교지를 떠나야 가능한 것에 대해 대답을 들을 필요가 있다.

주님은 뭐라고 말씀하시는가? 주님은 당신이 뭘 하라고 하시는가?

기억하라. 우리의 삶은 우리의 것이 아님을...
